Lucy Billings, Songwriter and Singer
Lucy Billings sang at the Tucson Folk Festival in May 2013. We had the honor of recording her set for her. Each of her songs comes from an inspiration or a situation she was in. One of her song’s entitled, “God’s House” tells a story as well. Below is the story that became her song, “God’s House”.
I was visiting my sister in Virginia and we went to a Halloween party at the home of her friends. They lived in a little church that they had bought and turned into their home. They described how they were out driving and passed the little church and noticed a “For Sale” sign in the window. They told me a bunch of funny stories about people dropping by and wanting to see the church, and how they turned the house back into a church for their son’s wedding. As I was listening to the stories, I knew I had to write a song about it. When I got back to California, the song basically tumbled out. The couple have now become my friends too and we get together when I visit my sister. It was wonderful to be able to sing the song for them last summer. The husband shed a few tears and said “You got me!”
